Dan Flavin (April 1, 1933 – November 29, 1996) was an American minimalist artist famous for creating sculptural objects and installations from commercially available fluorescent light … Spanning three decades of his career, this will be the first major presentation of Flavin’s work in the French capital since his 2006 retrospective at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. For the unfamiliar, Flavin’s works centred around the use of commercially available fluorescent lamps to create what he called “situations” of colour and light. The exhibition and accompanying publications are made possible in part by The Henry Luce Foundation, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Lannan Foundation, the Terra Foundation for American Art, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Dan Flavin: Drawing is organized by Isabelle Dervaux, the Acquavella Curator of Modern and Contemporary Drawings at the Morgan Library & Museum.
