Aang takes the cake for this. Actually seeing someone work through their problems instead of being mad for 2 seconds to highlight them is way more enjoyable for me anyway. Aang in the Avatar State is also less of a wimp. Korra was practically trained from birth.

Korra seems weaker because she was up against something worse. The past lives only contribute their knowledge & techniques. Last Friday, I wrote a short post about how I was disappointed with the first season of The Legend of Korra.

Korra in Season 1 didn't have access to the avatar state, until she did get access and immediately outclassed Amon. We spend our time in ATLA primarily following around 10 of the toughest benders in the world. She relied more on training & experience, and could only summon a portion of the Avatar State's true power , due to her lack of spirituality. He eventually learned how to control the Avatar State at the end of Book 2 before mastering it in the series finale. Round 3- Korra, avatar state stomps them. She is nearly taken out by Unalok while he is still human and then easily overwhelmed by him after he fuses with Vaatu. Korra in the avatar state can be beaten up terribly (shown in season 3 when she battled Zaaher.) It works just fine. I think this all boils down to her very limited spiritual connection. As has been discussed for a good long while now, it was believed that Korra would only last for a single season, and so at the end of season 1, the writers had to wrap everything up in a neat little package, which happened to include Korra gaining access to the Avatar State. Aang doesn’t full control of the Avatar state till the very end of the show. so the Cycle is thought to have been reset, so even if Korra could it wouldn't mean much since the Avatar State, as explained to Aang by Roku, is when the Avatar taps into the power and knowledge of previous Avatars.
