A baby Bank vole born in spring will be old enough to breed by the time fall comes. A Bank vole lives for an average of 18 to 20 months.

Voles are particularly well known for this, often concentrating on one particular species of tree. They are larger than Field Voles, measuring about 13 to 17 cm long. In the 1950s, this species was introduced into south western Ireland. Predators. It is very similar to the Bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus), however, the latter has red-brown fur, a longer tail and more prominent ears than the field vole. Bank voles will even climb trees for fruit and berries. They live in shallow burrows, but may make grassy, round nests above ground if the soil is unsuitable for digging. Field Voles as a rule appear much colder. The bank vole is found in much of Europe and in northwestern Asia. Predators. The bank vole, on the other hand, lives in holes dug into hedge banks, under sheds, amongst tree roots, in log piles and various other locations which are more readily found in gardens.
